Seems to me that the problem is that the
quirks of 8.1.6 have been identified, and
special code to support it has been added
to the TM code.
I wouldn't say that 8.1.6 works fine:
Besides some bad incompatibilities that
can give problems when interoperating
with other databases having similar
incompatibilities, quite a few bugs have
been found in this version.
For 8.1.7, it looks like we are still in
the process of identifying quirks, and I
think that the help of Jean-Michel DELSAUX
is invaluable for this.
With a bit of luck, he may have the 8.1.7
THIN driver working when reinstating a JTA
optimization that was removed due to a bug
in 8.1.6 (the driver would simply hang).
At least it looks to me like the 8.1.7
driver has problems running without this
optimization.
