I am much more ambitious than that :)
Jokes apart, Jakarta is great however I believe there is a business plan
outside SUN and IBM (meaning SUN employing us like they do most everyone in
Jakarta these days).
Yes we could go for outside sponsoring. But this is also a "failure" of Open
Source groups to generate *self-sustaining* revenues. You as a Open Group
then depend on "sugar daddies" and as an Open Source programmer on
employment. It is a working form of Open Source but one I believe we can go
beyond.
I want a succesful business grown from within the succesful Open Source
group. That will be a true test of Open Source Technology maturity. There
are 2 path that are known. RH/Linux where there isn't real symbiosis but 2
succesful groups. And Apache/IBM/SUN where you have the sugar daddy model.
Maybe there is a 3rd way? Don't get me wrong I would be delighted to end up
with "successes" like Linux or Apache (if only :), but I believe their money
generation schemes aren't real. Essentially RH generates (some) for
themselves and SUN doesn't care. Maybe our time has come, maybe...
Please stay tuned, we will try it very soon. Oh yes, we will try it...
