The StatementInPool object's implementation of getResultSet returns erroneous information. According to the API of java.sql.Statement, this method returns "the current result as a ResultSet object or null if the result is an update count or there are no more results." The problem we have encountered involves the last part of the statement - "or there are no more results". The implementation of this method in StatementInPool is this: return new ResultSetInPool(impl.getResultSet(), this); which means that rather than getting null passed back, we get a valid instance of ResultSetInPool with a null implementation object (because the impl.getResultSet() returned null according to spec). Code that works running a pure Java environement breaks when running under JBoss because of this.
