I'm not entirely sure that it's strickly a problem with spaces in the path name because JBoss's jmx- console worked just when the war files were exploded into c:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Temp. Deployment does consistently work if you do change the TEMP env variable to point to a short directory path with no spaces. You could try setting Jetty's temp directory explicitly to something simple (like c:\temp) by setting the System property "java.io.tmpdir".
