IMHO, IBM made a business decision to omit JSP/XML/Servlet syntax hightlighting etc. from Eclipse. They would've been creating competition for their own commercial product WebSphere Studio which specializes in web container support. They made Eclipse open source just attract developers to their IDE platform; something they failed to do with Visual Age for Java.
