JUnit4 is out:

and I'm interested in being able to use this for easier testing. I'm
also interested in evolving our test framework to support our own custom
annotations for aspects like security as mentioned here:

For tests that should be able to run under a j2se1.4.2 runtime, we have
our translation utility that we are committed to supporting as of the
jboss-4.0.4.GA release where this is used to produce a j2se1.4.2
compatibile jbossws-1.0.0.GA binaries:

Most likely this should wait for the head svn/maven kaboom so that
refactoring tests does not further confuse/delay this overdue migration.
