If you have internet access, you have a network connection. (Not having a 
network connection means either the network cable was unplugged from the 
computer, or there was no connection made to a wireless network.)

So the next question is, do you have a firewall?  If so, if you turn the 
firewall off, does it work? If that is the case, then there is a firewall 
setting that is causing the problem. 

Another possibility is in regards to your internet connection.  How is that 
done?  Dialup?  Cable/DSL modem?  If the later, do you have a router or do you 
connect directly to the modem?
