You don't have to post your comments in "bold". Your first post did not mention 
whether the lookup code was part of a standalone client or a web application 
and that was the reason why i asked you that question.

Are you packaging mail.jar as part of your web application, which might be 
resulting into classloader conflicts? See this 
http://wiki.jboss.org/wiki/ClassCastExceptions for possible ways to debug the 
exception. Specifically have a look at the jmx-console method mentioned over 
there.
