http://docs.jboss.com/jbossas/guides/clusteringguide/r2/en/pdf/jboss4-clustering.pdf as far as i've understood you have to create a cluster of jboss nodes in the same LAN using the 'all' configuration, then you have to configure a balancer like modjk in httpd which uses the 1099 port to contact the nodes (and that's why you can turn off http connector of the nodes if you do not need to reach them directly) read the previous pdf... lot's of usefull informations are in it...
