Open the build.xml under jbpm-db with an editor. Find the target named "db.test". In both elements add the attribute: maxmemory="256M". Save and re-run the tests. I had exactly the same problem, this addition fixed the OutOfMemoryError but still the tests did not complete perfectly correct.
