I've been watching this thread, as I ran into the same problem (and so did
at least one other guy over the last couple of days). I have nothing useful
to add, but at least you know you aren't crazy. I guess I'll go get the
.zip distribution, though it hardly seems like I should need to...

Subject: [JBoss-user] JBoss-2.2.2_Tomcat-3.2.2.tar.gz is corrupt?

I've solved my problem with JBoss hanging. I downloaded and unpacked
JBoss-2.2.2_Tomcat-3.2.2.zip, and everything works fine! Previously, I'd
been working with the tar.gz bundle.

For whatever reason, the zip and tar.gz packages differ. For example:

    --- zip/JBoss-2.2.2_Tomcat-3.2.2/jboss/docs/api/index.html      Sun Jun
10 10:45:28 2001
    +++ tar/JBoss-2.2.2_Tomcat-3.2.2/jboss/docs/api/index.html      Thu May

Many of the packaged jar-files also differ: sometimes just they just cksum
differently, other times the sizes are actually different.

Did I somehow corrupt the tar.gz file when I downloaded it? The two files
I downloaded cksum as follows:

  3027721817 8247605 JBoss-2.2.2_Tomcat-3.2.2.tar.gz
  1143786149 9745011 JBoss-2.2.2_Tomcat-3.2.2.zip
