FWIW - the "usual" way to cluster JBoss nodes on a single machine is to copy the "all" server directory and make new copies (e.g., jboss1, jboss2) under ..\jboss-4.0.1sp1\server\. I don't think this would cause the clustering problem but you would only need one JBoss server installation. You would still need to differentiate the ports using service-bindings as you did previously.
