There is some support for persisting attribute changes, put the mbean needs to be xmbeanized (see the XMBean section in the FAQ http://www.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=FAQJBossJMX)
I guess with datasources that would be a little hard to do, since the mbean descriptor is generated by the -ds.xml.
