I'm assuming that you're referring to the removal of the files in the work 
directory after a shutdown. Apparently this was added as a "feature", but I 
think of it as a bug because the work directory is also the default directory 
that Tomcat uses to write the serialized HTTP sessions to a file (if enabled).
