Hi Ryan,

Let me preface this with: "I did this thru experimentation (the traditional
way, I like to say), not with documentation. AND, I am not done
experimenting... :)"

So, I may be doing this wrong, but it gives me what I want, a central
location of .jars, and deployable applications that can be deployed via an
http protocol.

I created another directory under the jboss install's server/ called
/netboot. At startup, it has only /conf directory. All the 'services'
(-service.xml, etc.) deployed point to the http URL where the JARs required
by their service are located. In my case, a local Apache instance's
/htdocs/netboot/lib directory.

Here is an example from my JBOSS_HOME/server/netboot/conf/jboss-service.xml:

<!-- Loads Jars from HTTP URL -->
  <classpath codebase="http://localhost:80/netboot/lib";

archives="activation.jar,autonumber-plugin.jar,bcel.jar,castor.jar,counter-p
lugin.jar,hsqldb.jar,hsqldb-plugin.jar,

jaas.jar,javax.servlet.jar,jboss.jar,jbossha.jar,jboss-j2ee.jar,jboss-jca.ja
r,jboss-jsr77.jar,jboss-management.jar,

jbossmq.jar,jbossmx.jar,jbosssx.jar,jcert.jar,jmxri.jar,jmxtools.jar,jnet.ja
r,jnpserver.jar,jpl-pattern.jar,jpl-util.jar,

jsse.jar,jts.jar,log4j.jar,mail.jar,mail-plugin.jar,process-plugin.jar,prope
rties-plugin.jar,scheduler-plugin.jar,tyrex.jar,xalan.jar"
   />

To netboot, I run: run.bat -c netboot. JBoss looks in the
/server/netboot/conf directory, finds jboss-service.xml which says "hey,
load my required jars from http://localhost:80/netboot/lib";, and I am off to
the races! I also load any deployable apps as well like this.

Jason

what files are required in the lib directory of the netboot configuration
that i'm working with? i'm using jboss 3.0.3-jetty, so can i remove the
crimson.jar and still have it work? how is the netboot client finding the
required files on the server? will it pull the required jboss/lib/*.jar
files or are they required to be in the jboss/server/<config>/lib?

sorry for the questions, but i can't seem to find docs about this.

It works fine for me under a local Apache instance. Haven't tried it
remotely. It is really cool, but takes forever to boot since it copies the
jars thru http: rather than a nice local copy. My version is
jboss3.0.2-tomcat4.0.4 and there is no crimson.jar.

Probably the file lists are out of date... we should look for a way to make
the lists generated dynamically from the build. I don't think crimson.jar
is used in any 3.0++ version any more.

I haven't tried this stuff, where are the files one needs?
