I understand that I can use a server-side JAAS login module. As Kevin suggested I could secure a bean with the security domain to get the server-side login module invoked. Though I find it kind of odd to use a bean invocation to get the server-side JAAS login modules involved in the initial authentication procedure. But if this is the way to do it I will do it.
