The only difference I could imagine is that if you are coming through the service-request chain, then you will be guarantueed the right classloader which I´m not sure for any other entry point into the axis transport layer. I went to the apache site to download RC3 but couldn't find it. I could only see RC2. Are you building it from CVS or something?
