What JVM are you using?  Doesn't look like the Sun JVM to me.  I wouldn't trust 
any JVM that comes with a Linux distribution.  I know, for example, that the 
JVM that comes with Fedora Core 4 won't work with JBoss.

Enter the following at a command prompt and post the results:

java -version
