If it makes you feel any better (and I doubt it does), I landed here after searching, because I am having the same error. And I'm using a localhost install of MySQL, so it isn't due to a remote connection.
We must be doing something wrong, but I think I've followed all the instructions in the install guides. I'll let you know if I figure it out.
