Why do you conclude that? The JDE classpath variables have not changed since
the inception of the JDE 3 years ago and are unlikely to change in the future.
So you should NEVER have to reset them because of a new JDE version. Most of
the JDE customization variables are highly stable and have not changed in
years. Usually the only release-related customization variable changes you have
to worry about are new variables and changes to jde-key-bindings and
occasionally the templates. You do not even have to update these if you do not
use templates or are not interested in a particular new key binding.
