gnuserv is a package that turns Emacs into a text-editing server. Clients
applications can use gnuserv to start and send commands to the Emacs
server. The gnuserv package for Windows includes a command-line client
called gnuclientw that accepts a file name as an argument. When you execute
gnuclientw on a file, gnuclient opens the file in a running Emacs "server"
instead of starting a new instance of Emacs. (If a server instance does not
exist, gnuserv starts one automatically.) On Windows, you can can use the
Windows Explorer to associate any file type with gnuclientw. When you do
this, clicking a file of the associated type automatically opens it in the
Emacs server instead of in a new instance as would happen if you associated
the file type with runemacs. For more info, see
