Hello, I've just installed JDE on my compter. To test the JDEbug, I
followed the installation instructions, then created a toy class under
d:/temp and tried to launch JDEbug. I get an error that it could not
launch it (the message is "Could not start debugger"), the command in the
JDEbug buffer is 'javaw -classpath
"d:/users/ittay/emacs/jde/java/lib/jde.jar;d:\programs\jdk1.3\lib\tools.jar"
jde.debugger.Main' I'm running under Windows NT 4, with XEmacs 21.1.9,
JDK 1.3, with HotSpot. I tried using the same command line on a shell
window, and it just returned (without doing anything). When i used java
instead of javaw, i got the line (jde-dbo-init-debug-session) and the
process waits. Is this the right behaviour? If so, where can I change
the launch command? Thank you, Ittay

Hi Ittay:

The following is excerpted from the requirements section of the JDE website:

"Note The native Windows version of XEmacs does not correctly launch Java
processes. For this reason, you should avoid using this version of XEmacs
until the problem is resolved. Alternatives to the native version of XEmacs
on Windows include the Windows version of Emacs (recommended) and the
Cygnus version of XEmacs."

More information is available from the archive of the JDE mailing list
where this topic has discussed frequently and at length.
