Speedbar problem with JDE-2.1.9

I have a problem with 2.1.9.

I have setup everything, including the latest versions of speedbar
and semantic but when loading jde (by require) I get the following
problem:

   symbol's value as variable is void:
speedbar-dynamic-tags-function-list


The symbol is defined in speedbar.el

If I load that file and specifically eval the defvar for that symbol
jde will then load.

Wierd!


Anybody got any ideas?
