That is precisely the case with GNU Emacs. Have you read the JDE
installation instructions? Installation with XEmacs is more complicated
because of XEmacs insistance that a package's Lisp code goes in one place
and all its other files go in another place. Frankly, I prefer GNU Emacs
both as a developer of Java applications and as a developer of Emacs
enhancement packages.

It's actually very easy to install if you follow the few simple
instructions given on the JDE website. If you disagree that they are few or
simple, I'd be happy to hear specific suggestions on how they could be
improved. The problem, from my perspective, is that a lot of people are too
lazy to read installation instructions or are incapable of following even
the simplest instructions--often because they "know better." Sorry to sound
harsh but that's the conclusion I've reached from dealing with innumerable
JDE setup problems of the last three years, despite hours spent developing
documentation and installation instructions, making available a FAQ, and
making available a mailing list and archive as a resource for researching
problems. I believe the level of technical support for the JDE is better
than that available for many commercial applications.

The Classes menu is documented in the JDE user's guide. If you don't see
it, it is because your setup is incorrect.
