My .02: Good point from a traditional view. It is quite infrequent on the
list (although it has been picking up with some of the other great
contributions). I am thankful for the ease of just saving the attached file
as needed. The attachment may take an extra few download seconds...well
worth it. Even on the replies that haven't edited out unnecessary text.

I maintain the JDE on Windows. I've never gotten any of the patch programs
(native windows or Cygnus) to work reliably on Windows with Emacs, although
I've spent many hours trying. So I've given up trying. It's just easier to
send the whole file. I'd also prefer to get the whole file when people
send me updates to JDE lisp files. It's very easy for me to diff the files
and see what's changed and what hasn't. In fact, I prefer diff because it
allows me to monitor the changes at the same time as I am applying them.
When people sent me patches, I end up having to apply them manually which
is tedious and error prone.
Also, I'm not sure everyone who is using the JDE has or is familiar with
patch. I'm sure a lot of people regard the extra bandwidth required to
transmit the entire file as a small price to pay for the convenience of
simply replacing one file with another.
