I agree that it is nice (and powerful) to be able to bind arbitrary
keys to JDE commands. However, from a "user" perspective, configuring
Emacs has always been cumbersome. I have fought with people in my
department to get them up and running with Emacs over other IDEs...
and I lost. I lost mainly because there is no "standard" way to
configure the Emacs keyset. I don't understand it, but it seems that
some (many?) people don't like to spend hours configuring their
editor or learning keystrokes which use C- or M-

Maybe we should add an example .emacs to the Introduction of the
JDE-UG.
It would contain commands which would give a "standard" feel to JDE,
common keystrokes, etc.

I am, to say the least, not a fan of other IDEs. But for the most
part,
they tend to have a common keyset:

  F5 - Run/Go/Debug
  F7 - Build
  F10 - Step Over
  F11 - Step Into
  etc.

This would be a great way for "more of a user than an implementer"
types to be able to add to the JDE project (hint, hint :-)

Feedback?
