Hmm, I still seem to be getting the error. There are a lot of
variables here, but basically attached is the backtrace I get for one case
(I'm executing JDEbug->Exit Debugger).

Version info:
emacs version: XEmacs 2.14 (patch 10) on sparc-sun-solaris2.8
Solaris version: SunOS ketu 5.8 Generic_108528-15 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-60
java version:
  java version "1.3.1_02"
  Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.1_02-b02)
  Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.1_02-b02, mixed mode)
JDE XEmacs package version: 1.38
updated all XEmacs required packages for JDE as of this morning using
  xemacs.org server.
I did start up xemacs with "xemacs -q"

I say there are lots of variables because:
- I had at one point used pre-releases of XEmacs packages. I was
  thinking perhaps that had something to do with it, so I removed all
  pre-released packages and re-downloaded the released versions from
  xemacs.org
