In case people are interested, I just wanted to mention that I am successfully using JDEE on Mac OS X. I'm using an Emacs build that I made from CVS, but I've also had success with some binaries at
http://www.porkrind.org/emacs/
I am using the Java 1.4 update fram Apple, which is available via the built-in software update.
Here are the relevant variables from my configuration:
