I know google talk does this, or something similar. I believe they do this because they found several clients which were not properly calculating the hash or the image in te vCard.

The server is allowed to modify stanzas.

Hi,

If a Jabber client sends this kind of <presence> stanza with an empty
update node as per XEP-0153 (avatar) section 4.4, 1st bullet:

<presence id="1900"> <x xmlns="vcard-temp:x:update"></x>
<c ...></c> </presence>

Is the Jabber server allowed to modify the content of the presence
stanza by add a <photo> node before broadcasting it to contacts and
other connections on the same account but different resources?

Would it be a bug in the Jabber server?

Regards,
Alban
