Hi Everyone

This is my first post here. I am an amateur developer, my goal is to write an open source scientific instrument control program. Basically all the current applications that do this use the desktop. I would like to make a "webtop" App.

I was thinking about writing a XMPP-RS232 converter and a XMPP-GPIB converter(GPIB is common with instrumentation). I was thinking that an XMPP-AJAX client could could then talk directly to the instrumentation via the XMPP-RS232 converter.

I was thinking that this might be a way to bypass the browser sandboxing and allow hardware access for a web application.

I am not a professional, could anyone warn me of possible pit-falls? Is this nuts?

Thanks in advance-Patrick
