Greetings,

Instead of CSV, you might try using SYLK.  It's a 
text-based format that includes information on 
formatting, formulas, etc.  It's supported by most 
spreadsheets including Excel, Lotus, etc.

A quick search on google for "SYLK format" yielded

I believe the mime-type you would want to use is 
"application/sylk".  In fact, a search on google for 
"SYLK mime-type" yields many references which 
indicate that using SYLK as a download format is 
(was) not uncommon.
