You are correct on the version for JVM. But you can use Sun's plugin to upgrade it to 
1.4. Though, I think Netscape 6.x uses 1.3 and Netscape 7.0 is going to use 1.4. 

About the kinds of audio files, I am not sure. I now WAV files are supported. I am 
pretty sure that MP3 is not supported. (Though, I haven't check the latest on Sun's 
site)
