Tomcat 3.2.4 and Java 1.4.0_01 do NOT work together. I recently upgraded to Java 1.4.0_01 from 1.3.1_01 on a Red Hat 7.0 box ( all these other details just in case I am misinforming you ).
It was not even remotely funny. I tested it first on our test server and everything appeared fine. Then we tested it on our clients test server. Still fine. But then we put it onto the live server and it would crash almost every two hours ( see my previous messages about tomcat/jsp to see some of the errors ). This seems to have been happening because the amount of traffic that occured. Sooo, I went back to my test server, refreshed the pages about 20 times real fast, and down it went. So I down graded back to 1.3.1_01, tested the same thing and everything was fine. The live server is now running perfectly fine. The broken live server was reporting NullPointer, OutOfMemory, SocketException, NumberFormatException, IllegalStateException and a few other errors. I would probably conclude that the issue was very likely to be Socket issues.
