I agree, with the standard of open source software making huge improvements the opportunity for much smaller companies to use advanced systems becomes much more viable. Many of the companies I have worked for still implement mission critical systems using client hosted Excel and Access. Maybe there is a real opportunity for consultants to specialise, especially in tools like Compiere with JBoss and hopefully Postgres instead of Oracle.
