That was one of my questions a little more than a year ago to one of
the IBM Products Group advisors we worked with.  In turn, he directly
contacted a couple of the developers who worked on VAJ.  The simple
answer is, VAJ's JVM cannot be changed.  All of my efforts to prove
otherwise failed rather dramatically.
