Hi Paul,

Could you tell me why specifying boundaries is a no-no for cross platform development? 
The boundaries I set are relative to other components on the panel, but the size is 
hard coded to maintain consistency, and that's what's failing on the linux platform.

Sounds like part of the problem lies in doing some no-no's of cross-platform Java 
development. Like explicitly setting the bounds of a control. Though, I must admit 
that having the default color of a button being black is unusual. This might be 
related to the theme of the Linux desktop. I don't know for sure. But you might want 
to check the java.sun.com website.
