It corrects a regression in conformance to the Java API that was introduced by the change for "Alternative String hashing", 7126277. However, I have added an '@run' tag to the jtreg testcase, to enable the alternative string hashing to be used by the test: http://cr.openjdk.java.net/~ngmr/8000955/webrev.04 Mike Duigou suggested that I should bring this forward for pushing to jdk7u ASAP after its introduction into jdk8 (due to the nature of the problem it addresses).
