Hi, I am sending this email 'inspired' by ApacheCon. Currently in incubation there are four projects directly related to RDF:
- Apache Any23 - http://incubator.apache.org/projects/any23.html - Apache Clerezza - http://incubator.apache.org/clerezza/ - Apache Jena - http://incubator.apache.org/jena/ - Apache Stanbol - http://incubator.apache.org/stanbol/ Clerezza provides OSGi bundles and it is using Jena (as well as Sesame) for parsing/serializing RDF as well as storing (using also TDB from Jena) and querying via SPARQL (using also ARQ from Jena). Stanbol uses Jena indirectly via Clerezza (but it might decide use Jena directly for example for performance reasons). Any23 does not currently use Jena (they use Sesame), but it could (and IMHO it should use Jena, if only we could provide a small/simple Graph API common to all these projects... For Any23, see also: ANY23-19) There are other projects which might (or might not) be related to RDF and/or Jena in future: - Apache ODF Toolkit - http://incubator.apache.org/odftoolkit/ - Apache Tika - http://tika.apache.org/ - Apache Nutch - http://nutch.apache.org/ - ... Last but not least, there is the "big data" ecosystem which of course (if necessary) can be used with RDF data as well: - Apache Hadoop - http://hadoop.apache.org/ - Apache Pig - http://pig.apache.org/ - Apache HCatalog - http://incubator.apache.org/hcatalog/ - Apache HBase - http://hbase.apache.org/ - Apache Cassandra - http://cassandra.apache.org/ - Apache Giraph - http://incubator.apache.org/giraph/ - ... Having said this, all the projects related to RDF are currently in incubation and therefore their first goal (rightly so) is to get out of the incubator. However, sharing thoughts on possible future scenarios and visions of RDF data in Apache and the role of Jena is IMHO useful. Paolo
