Perhaps the cache is expiring too readily, so the work is done anew on each page load. If you can demonstrate how to reproduce this problem on a clean installation it should be fixable.
Anyway loading a single build even without the help of the cache ought to be pretty quick, so it is likely that some page you are viewing is in fact trying to load a lot of builds at once. Again if this is reproducible it should be fixable.
Can I set a flag to return it to previous state?
Not that I know of.
