Requiring the URL version of the path would work for me, though it would be nice if it was more discoverable (it took me a while to figure out the exact format I needed to use).
This still has the issue that using the URL version can massively slow down the build process. The URL version does not match the string hg automatically puts in the hgrc. When the plugin compares these strings, it doesn't find a match and clones the entire repo for every build. I have a workaround, but it may not be so obvious what is going on for new users.
