xUnit plugin uses XSD JUnit files for validating JUnit outputs, before to be recorded by Jenkins. It is a security mechanism.
Performance plugin seems to not use any validation on output JUnit files.
It works for your use cases but maybe you could have unexpected results with other inputs.
Please upload your wrong JUnit file, I'll check.
