It is reproducible with 1.528, no newer versions were tested.
As a workaround it seems to be functional to manually delete the build directory like this:
if [ -d "${WORKSPACE}/build" ]; then mv ${WORKSPACE}/build ${WORKSPACE}/buildOLD rm -rf ${WORKSPACE}/buildOLD & fi
