Yes we've just restricted workspaces to admins, though I can see developers needing access to the workspace to debug test failures, which is why this improvement would be nice to have.
We are on 1.555, it was more an issue with UI/server becoming unresponsive when he tried to download a workspace of 42k files creating a 5.6gb zip file. Not so much a jenkins specific issue, as once we realised the cause it sorted itself out pretty quickly!
