Hi again,
after I registered this issue I was still doubting that everything I have done before was completely correct.
Then I decided to perform couple of "retries", and after third attempt to make the configuration of Jenkins build job from scratch I've figured out the mistake was present with regard to SSH private keys, used to authenticate against GitLab. After I corrected that used SSH key in Jenkins, it (repository clone) started working OK.
So no issues at the end, and I apologize for the disturbing for (basically) no reason.
