This it not something I have ever been able to reproduce so I'm a bit in the dark here.
Do you get any errors in the "normal" jenkins logs?
Do you have a very large installation with many jobs?
How long does the conversion take until Jenkins tells you it is done?
Do you have your old data left or is it destroyed by the conversion?
