Hi, all.
Just a couple of unrelated thoughts about JH items on eBay.
Han,
Congratulations on your successful bid. Even with the taxes and fees and
transportation costs, your JH GT is still a real bargain. I'm looking
forward to hearing more about your experiences with this car.
JH engine and trans on eBay:
The parts and machining to rebuild a 907 engine run somewhere around $2000.
I recently paid $200 for a disassembled JH engine in rebuildable condition
but missing a few bits. The value of a JH engine would thus be somewhere
between $200 and $2200 depending on condition. If I recall correctly, a JH
4-speed transmission in unknown condition recently sold on eBay for $45, and
another for about $100. Parts for a rebuild would be another $200 or so.
Using these figures, and ignoring labor, a fair price for an engine and
transmission might be anywhere from $250 if worn out, to $2500 if freshly
rebuilt. As one can sometimes buy an entire parts car for $1000 or so, I'd
guess that a typical price would be $500-$800.
In this particular auction, the seller provided almost no information about
the engine. The highest offer received was under $500, which sounds fair to
generous. But the seller had set a higher reserve, which IMHO was not
justified given the amount of information provided.
