"Tax and Spend" is how we get the roads that our lovely cars drive on. Or
get towed on. I am delighted that there will be record spending on roads in
our area in the next five years. I'm also glad I can help pay for it, since
I really enjoy taking a long sweeper at an unsafe-for-a-non-Jensen speed.
Oh, the tax also pays for the Cop that gives me the ticket.
As for the prices of fuel, we pay about $1.70 US in northern California, but
that is a pittance compared to across the pond.
Happy to be here and driving,
Tom G

......snip................
  This is still
too high seeing as how we make the stuff. There are 4 major oil refineries
here in Edmonton and we are surrounded by producing oil fields. In fact
there is a producing well within a mile of my home. We are also the
terminus and refining point for the Athabaska Tar Sands synthetic crude
which is produced about 250 miles NE of here.

That doesn't seem to make any difference. Most of the
price is tax and if government's propensity to tax and
spend cannot be kept in check, the price of gasoline is
        an easy target.

We should be much more worried about the price of our utilities. What are
you paying for a megawatt hour of electricity and what are you paying for
natural gas per thousand cu. ft.?

Offhand I don't know but there is a hell of a fuss about
electricity prices here in California. No new generating
stations have been built in 30 years although the population
has doubled and everybody has more electrical appliances.

I will check so we can do some international comparisons.
