Monocoque is the term used for a car body which is structural, the engine
and wheels etc are fixed to that monocoque structure. The Jensen is old
fashioned because it uses a chassis and the body is bolted onto the chassis.
I am not sure which was the first car that used a monocoque chassis (I am
sure somebody on here will know), but l know the Rover 2000 of 1963 which
won Car of the Year was an early successful car that used a monocoque
structure.
