Frank,

As a carpenter/ general contractor, we use the word "plinth" to describe a
block of wood used at the intersection of dissimilar molding profiles,
typically a door casing and baseboard in Victorian homes. The baseboards
were typically 3/4" thick with a molded cap that may be thicker than the
door trim. Inserting a 1" thick block at the intersection resolved the
problem. I guess this could have automotive uses?

Hope this helps,

Kurt
