Ed:

"Paint code" is perhaps too sophisticated a designation for engine enamels.
Be that as it may,
any Mopar dealer should be able to supply "Street Hemi Orange" enamel in
aerosol cans under part no. P439216. That is not the correct color,
however, for a 1974 440. The original color for ALL Mopar engines from
1972-83 (excluding 2.2s but including 440s) is "Blue," Mopar part no.
P434217. "Street Hemi Orange" was used on 426 Street Hemi engines built in
1966-71 and on high performance 383 and 440 engines built in 1970-71. Bill
Hirsch in New Jersey (1-800-828-2061) sells excellent high-gloss,
heat-resistant formulations of these and similar paints, both in aerosol
cans and in quart cans for brushing. I rather prefer the latter for
engine-painting, since there's no overspray problem with a brush, and hence
no need to mask machined surfaces.

Yet maybe all the foregoing is irrelevant if you are aiming at originality,
since Jensen overpainted many but not all Interceptor engines in black (no
matter the color of the air-filter housing).

71 Interceptor III 133/5474 (with 383 engine still showing the original
"Street Hemi Orange" on the block and heads, but with semi-gloss black air
filter)
